Potential Star in Rag picking Region
Ajay Karoos, 7-year-old boy from Chai Math, a densely populated poverty-stricken slum community mainly inhabited by rag pickers in Ward No. 16 has become a popular boy as an all rounder. Not only has he stood first in exams in the school but also gained lot of popularity as a very good dancer and a fine artist who is very good in drawing. But Ajay was not the same one and a half year ago when he first came to the centre.
He was a quiet boy who had never been to school and did not know anything. Father, Bhola Karoos, a Rickshaw puller and a stepmother were not willing to send him to school. Didi at the centre, Salema Khatoon took lot of interest in convincing the parents and paying individual attention and care to Ajay who was deprived of motherly care at home. After studying for one year in the Bridge Course Ajay was all set to enter the formal School. He was admitted in class one in Sydabad U.P. School in Barrackpore Municipality.
Impressed and proud of the achievements of the Son Ajay, Bhola Karoos is now willing to support his education. Ajay is doing very well in School and gets extra inputs in education in the Remedial Class so that he continues to do well and the motivation is preserved. He also attends Dance and Drawing Classes run by the Organisation.
